Here's one for all you gentelmen.... my hubby wants dvd's for Christmas, that play in hd. Now I know nothing about this stuff so I have been looking online and cannot find where to buy them, or how to know if they are hd to begin with. Am I right in thinking that not every dvd will play in hd? I mean, it has to be a specific (and more costly) kind?
Help!
Please?

Toshiba is making some good HD dvds. I would watch out for the Sony products right now since their's are all Blue Ray and they own a great deal of the rights to Blu Ray. The also owned the rights to Laser Discs and look at where they are now.

Check out some of the stores like Best Buy. If you have a local stereo shop talking to them would probably be better. Just be careful because some of these guys act like chauvanist mechanics.

I hope you did not try the Black Friday shopping thing. My wife and I are on a small vacation right now in Cleveland. There were some nuts that brought tents to Best Buy over night. It is 30 F here with a wind chill of about 20 F

Mary,

I just thought that I would bug you and tell you that right now it is sunny and 34 F here in Sarnia. Although we are at the same latitude as Northern California we definately get four seasons. It can get as high as Mid 90s in the summer and according to my car last winter there were some days at about -10 F.

Ha! Bugging you back Mike, because right now we have a beautiful sunny 63... and I'm loving it!

The question is, which is your longer season? Summer or winter?

Summer usually from End of May to mid/late Sept.

Winter is late November to Late March.

Hummmm you have the same seasons as we do in the South! Up north it was more cold weather and less hot temps... I would have thought you would carry those cycles. Ok, I learned something new today, I can shut my brain down again!

Yay, snow

Now its time for spins, frostbite, and using the e-brake to go around corners.

Mary
Whats the verdict on the DVD player?

Let's see Mike, I bought hub about 13 DVD's. Not any special kinds. They better play on his TV and make him happy! ha! They were anywhere from 13-25$ a piece V 35 for 1 HD DVD's. I am hoping the quanity will make up for not being HD. What do you think?

If it does not make him happy then slap him up side the head.
What you could really do to make him happy is to later take him shopping for one. Say around his birthday. This way he could get the one he absolutely wants.

Well Mike, I think he wanted the Blue Ray player and DVD's.. I guess I dropped the ball. When I seen the price of them all!!! I got him DVD's that he likes, (let my son pick them out because he watches them with the hub), so to answer your question, I dont know! ha! He was not too excited. \:\(

I just cant understand that all. You get a pricey 1080P TV then have to buy extra equip to watch the HD DVD's on!!!! Makes no sense to me!

If you are looking for a resonably price Blue Ray then the Playstation 3 is for a good place to start and I am sure the kids won't mind.

We just picked up a 1080P LG tv and it is good its just that we understand that we will have to upgrade our other equipment to get the full potential out of it. For now it is just a step up from where we were.

If he still does the bummed out thing for the DVD player just remember that he is a man and not the brightest creature on the planet. My favourite is gift cards in the future for him to allow him to pick out the one he wants.

Thanks Mike. You just made my day. I am glad to know the Playstation 3 would work. That gives me something to think about in the future.
