Man , there are some neat old time paint jobs that could be brought back , they are dated and not real advanced , but in their day they were cool . Fading many colors in a stripe style , Kandies are fun to work with , but very expensive to play with , you can spray a base color , then use different other colors of base laying out flames , or a design , then spray one color of kandy over the top for a very neat effect . Lace painting was another cool effect . spray a base color down , get a long piece of lace , wet it lightly , and it will stick to the side of the vehicle, spray a light color of base over the lace , it will transfer the design to the car , then clear it or spray a kandy over it and get a very nice effect . Glow in the dark flames would be a neat effect ( always wanted to try ) It charges with light some one will come up with something new , but it will be thinking outside the box , like Mike did with true flames I have not played with trying new things with paint in years , I did some cool effects when I was younger . Just don't have the desire to try anymore . As it takes alot of money to just play , as Automotive paint is not cheap to just mess around with . Just the Kandy paint I was going to paint my 37 ford was going to be around $6000.00 , thats just material mind you .

If I can't brush or roll it on, it doesn't get painted. Or I'll use a can of rustoleum. One neat paint that I found recommended for stuff like my old Jeep was the Hammerite brand. http://www.hammerite.com/uk/index.html

I agree the realistic flames are over-done. But if that's what the customer wants, and he's paying the bill, on they go. I really dig on the old-skool stuff with a new-age twist. Maybe an old gasser-style altered with faded kandy, big ol' flake and some lace painting, and plenty of pinstriping? Yeah... That'd be cool... BTW... Be sure to check out the shows this weekend, there's a very kool truck coming on Powerblock with Courtney.

Hey, Spraytech- I've used the glow-in-the-dark stuff before, and it's pretty kool. Painted a whole Honda CBR with it, complete with graphics. The owner would park it in his yard and hose it down with 500-watt halogen lights in the evening then take it out and ride it around. You could see it coming from a mile away! Very kool effect, but very expensive.

I quit doing graphics & murals 25 years ago , every one wants it , but do not want to pay for your talent , time , & materials , so I just do the refinishing of every day vehicles , the only time I get to play MAD SCIENTIST is color matching ....... LOL

Color matching is a whole 'nuther talent! I've seen colors with 15 or more alternates! That always drives me crazy! And of course the alternate deck only has 6 (at most) of the colors on file, which still leaves you guessing on where to start. I'd rather come up with my own colors, thank you.

I usually start with prime formula , and mix it to match as I spray the color on the vehicle , I find its easier and faster for me , instead of spraying tons of spray out cards to match ! Been doing color matches for 30 years in Lacquer , synthetic enamel , acrylic enamel , acrylic urethanes , now BC/CC . Chrysler has to be the worst I have seen for Ump-teen alternates ! Soon it will be waterborne , All of Canada is waterborne only , and California has to be all waterborne be the end of 2008 , east coast is not far behind .

Is this for new cars shipped into California too? Harold , Its for the AutoBody Re-pair industry . Most factories have been waterborne for many years now . The base color is waterborne , mixed with deionized water for reduction for spray application , but a catalyzed Clear is still being used as Paint manufacturers are developing a waterborne clear , but is not being used yet .

Hey, guys- just a heads up- I've listed my orange Ford on Ebay for sale- check it out! It'll look great parked in someone's driveway! And Spraytech- put on your thinkin' cap cuz this weekend we're showing our new project, and it's one that I can go nuts on with the paint!!! The colors and graphics will be somewhat dictated by the viewers, so we're open to suggestions. Just keep it gawdy and loud!!!
